Is Juicing Really Healthy

Is Juicing Healthy

Juicing and bottled cold pressed juices have really become a big part of everyday life here in America. Those who have been juicing since it was in vogue, those who have jumped on the juicing wagon and those who bottle and sell cold pressed juices claim that there are almost unlimited health benefits to juicing

From weight loss to detox to preventing cancer, juicing is being used for everything these days and many claims are being made but what is the truth and exactly how healthy is juicing.

Are the Health Claims Real

Unfortunately, most medical and health professionals will tell you that although juicing can be good for you, relying on nothing but juicing for your intake of fruits and vegetables is actually unhealthy. They will also tell you that many if not most of the health claims made by juicing proponents are not backed up by scientific data.

This of course does not stop those who feel the evidence is there from juicing and in honesty there is a lot of documented stories to show that maybe there is something to this juicing and the health benefits associated with it.

One of the theories is that consuming lots of alkaline fruits and vegetables will keep your bodies pH in an alkaline state in which diseases such as cancer can not thrive in. Health professionals will tell you that your body maintains a fairly constant pH which is slightly alkaline and that if your pH varies to much in either direction your body will automatically make adjustments to bring it back into its normal level.

Since I am not a doctor I can not tell you the validity of this nor if juicing can make a difference in the pH of your body. I must say however that our bodies don't always do what they are supposed to do and maybe adding juicing to your diet may just something to consider.

Juicing is Still Healthy

Although juicing may not have the evidence to back up many of the claims about it, this doesn't mean it is not healthy. However, to much juicing can have its negatives. For example, if using a juicer and not a blender when juicing, important fiber from the fruits and vegetables is lost. Additionally, many of the store bought cold pressed juicers use way more fruit than vegetables in their juice to keep them tasting sweet. All this sugar is not healthy. This can happen even when juicing at home as many folks opt for the better taste instead of the healthier juice.

The moral of this story is that no matter what you believe about juicing, the fact is that it can be a very healthy addition to your regular diet as long as you are mindful of your juicing practices and your consumption of raw or cooked fruits and vegetables. And if all the health claims are true then all the better.
